SHELBURNE, N.H. — A program on “A Day in the Life of a Snow Ranger” will be presented at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Shelburne Town Hall. It is being sponsored by Mahoosuc Land Trust and Shelburne Trails Club.
The land trust continues its 2018 Speaker Series with speaker Helon Hoffer of the Mt. Washington Avalanche Center. This is the only American avalanche center east of the Rockies. With its history of skiing and climbing, it is the oldest backcountry forecasting program in the country.
Hoffer’s duties include avalanche forecasting and leading search and rescue efforts in the Cutler River drainage on the east side of Mt. Washington from Dec. 1 through the end of winter avalanche season. He also promotes mountain safety and snow science.
Hoffer’s presentation will be followed by light refreshments and an opportunity for conversation.
