CARRABASSETT VALLEY — The Carrabassett Valley Public Library has announced its February vacation week events.

Tuesday, Feb. 20, Chewonki presents “Owls of Maine” at 4:30 p.m. The interactive program will look at the habitats and adaptations of Maine’s native owls. Featuring live, nonreleasable owls, the program will begin with slides and sounds to learn the appearances and calls of different owls. Then, using talons, wings and skulls they will explore the adaptations of the silent, nocturnal hunters. The Owls of Maine program provides the opportunity to handle the unique specimens.

Wednesday, Feb. 21, showing of the film “Defoe’s Way” at 4:30 p.m., produced in collaboration by L.L. Bean and O’Maine Studios. Legendary wilderness teacher Gardner Defoe and 15 of his students, new and old, unite from all across the country for one last canoe trip on Maine’s remote Allagash River. The adventure tests the group, who put into action Defoe’s life lessons that transformed them years ago, when they encounter the unexpected … rekindling what makes them family. Thursday, Feb. 22, a book talk and signing with John and Cynthia Orcutt at 4:30 p.m. “Enduring Heights” features photographs by John and Cynthia Orcutt of the natural environment of Maine’s High Peaks, including the areas surrounding Sugarloaf, Bigelow, Crocker, Mt. Abraham and Saddleback mountains.

Saturday, Feb. 24, the library will feature an artist reception for photographer Joe Gambino from 4:30 to 6 p.m. There will be complimentary wine and cheese. For more information, visit his Facebook page, 27North Photography.
