LEWISTON — The School Committee on Monday night unanimously approved Lewiston Middle School literacy coach Charlotte Nile to become assistant principal at Martel Elementary School, beginning July 1.
Martel Principal Stephen Whitfield is retiring at the end of the school year, and Nile will take the leadership role for one year.
With Martel and Longley schools merging into the new Connors Elementary School, opening in 2019, Nile will serve as assistant principal at Martel for a year, then become assistant principal at Connors.
Speaking in support of Nile’s nomination, Longley School Principal Kristie Clark, who will be principal at Connors, said she was thrilled to introduce Nile to the committee Monday night. Nile has great passion for education and much enthusiasm in helping students, Clark said.
Nile said she is looking forward to this next step. She said her work as a teacher coach has helped prepare her to become an assistant principal.
“I’m really excited to get to know the Martel staff and students and help them move forward in the transition to the Connors School,” Nile said. “Thank you.”
