WASHINGTON, D.C. — Isobel Straub, a senior at Rangeley Lakes Regional School, has been named the winner of the 2018 Congressional Art Competition for Maine’s 2nd District. Straub’s artwork, “Wait,” will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel hallway to the U.S. Capitol for the next year.

All of the Maine 2nd District top participants, Straub, Pauline Han, Lizzie Dunn, Cara Hu, Jasmine Weiang Li and Yuqing Mao, are invited to a reception at the Blaine House on Monday, May 14, to recognize their outstanding artwork. Additional information and details will be announced in the near future.

In Maine, the winners are chosen by jurors, who are selected by the Maine Arts Commission, and are offered a scholarship to Maine College of Art.

The Congressional Art Competition started in 1982 to provide an opportunity for young people to demonstrate their artistic abilities and exceptional talent. Each spring, students submit artwork and the winners’ pieces are hung in the halls of the U.S. Capitol.

Pauline Han, 10th-grader at Hebron Academy, entering “Pale Light,” a painting, was named first runner-up in the Congressional Art Competition for Maine’s 2nd District

Cara Hu, 11th grader at Hebron Academy, took honorable mention in the Congressional Art Competition for Maine’s 2nd District, with “Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder,” drawing and illustration.

Jasmine Weiang, an 11th grader at Hebron Academy, took honorable mention in the Congressional Art Competition for Maine’s 2nd District, with “The Chief’s Wife,” photography.

Yuqing Mao, 11th-grader at Gould Academy, entered “Inheritance of Life,” drawing and illustration, in the Congressional Art Competition for Maine’s 2nd District, and received honorable mention.
