The chef for a Yarmouth-based catering company will appear on a upcoming episode of the Food Network’s popular television show “Chopped.”
Seth Hyman, a spokesman for the Food Network/Cooking Channel, confirmed on Tuesday that Christian Hayes, chef and owner of Dandelion Catering Co. in Yarmouth, will compete on the March 20 episode of Chopped, titled “Pork on the Brain.”
In a release Tuesday, Hayes said he will compete against three other chefs from around the country for a $10,000 prize and the title of Chopped Champion.
“I am excited for the chance to be part of such a cool experience, and incredibly humbled to represent Maine in the Chopped kitchen,” Hayes said in a statement.
Hayes said he was reluctant at first to answer the casting call, but was encouraged by friends and eventually went to New York.
“It’s sort of against my philosophy of cooking. I don’t chase plaudits or try and compete with anyone else but myself,” Hayes said, adding that it was a once in a lifetime experience for him.
Dandelion Catering was established in 2009 by Hayes and his wife, Christine, the business’ co-owner and manager. The couple are both native Mainers.
The March 20 episode of Chopped will air on the Food Network channel at 10 p.m.
