LISBON — Lisbon resident Jim Ross will give a talk at the Lisbon Historical Society on Wednesday, Feb. 14, about his ancestor, ship captain Loammi Ross. Captain Ross lived during the Civil War and saw duty sailing to support the war effort. Later his sailings took him to South America, Africa and Calcutta, where he was offered the position as harbor master.
Two of the ships he captained were “Gettysburg” and “Southern Rights.” In retirement, he returned to Maine and took up residence in Lisbon Center. His descendant, Jim Ross, will fill in details of his ancestor’s exploits.
The evening will also be the society’s annual Valentine’s party. Those attending are invited to bring handmade Valentine cards to exchange. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the society’s meeting rooms at the MTM Center in Lisbon Falls. Entrance and parking are at the rear of the building.
Annual dues are also payable. Secretary/treasurer Dorothy Smith can provide membership status and accept dues payments at the meeting.
Refreshments will be served, and members are asked to bring Valentine-themed food items for the refreshment table. Further information can be requested at LisbonHistSoc@gmail.com or by calling 207-353-8510.
