LISBON — Town councilors Tuesday evening focused on Lisbon Emergency’s service and funding.

The private, nonprofit ambulance service presented a $127,884 budget for 2018-19, and of $199,245 for 2020-21. 

Despite the increase, townspeople at the meeting said its high level of service and quick response time outweighs a potential tax increase.

“There’s only so much of a burden that you can put on us,” resident Dot Fitzgerald said. “But we really need that service.” She praised the efficiency and professionalism of Lisbon Emergency, which serves Lisbon and Bowdoin.

“Minutes count when life is at stake,” Fitzgerald said.

Councilors agreed to continue to work with Lisbon Emergency on the budget.

“From a public safety perspective, I think we’re ready to move and to act,” Councilor Norm Albert said.

In other business, it was announced:

• A sewer ordinance workshop is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at at the Town Office; and

• A public hearing is set for the next council meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, to discuss the amended Dingley Press Municipal Tax Increment Financing District and Development Program for another five years.
