WILTON — Stay-cation Adventure Camp is planned for school vacation week, Feb. 19-23, at Academy Hill School for elementary school students in the Franklin County area.
The camp is open to those in kindergarten through grade five in Regional School Units 58, 9 and 73. The districts include the towns of Avon, Kingfield, Phillips, Strong, Farmington, Wilton, Starks, Industry, Chesterville, New Sharon, Weld, Temple, Vienna, New Vineyard, Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls.
Registration deadline is Feb. 10 and a nonrefundable $25 deposit per child is due then.
The camp will be held weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $30 per day or $135 for the week, including snacks and lunch; $25 per day or $115 for the week, without snacks and lunch.
The daily schedule is:
• Monday: Find the Abominable Snowman, sledding, snowshoeing
• Tuesday: Scent stations, cross country skiing, snow shelters
• Wednesday: Checking animal tracks, snowshoeing, snow baseball
• Thursday: Build a snow worm, winter horseshoes, snow art
• Friday: Snowshoeing, sledding, snow treasure hunt.
Courtney Austin, coordinator of the 21st Century Kids of F.R.A.N.K.L.I.N., said there will also be daily activities in the gym and cafeteria, including arts and crafts, and science experiments.
Staff will include site coordinators Austin and Elizabeth Staples from the 21st Century program and enrichment staff.
“We have plenty of equipment,” Austin said. “If students have snowshoes or skis, they can bring them if they wish,” she said.
Austin said offering year-round programs is part of the sustainability plan of the Franklin County Children’s Task Force.
“This is a way to raise funds and awareness about Task Force programs,” Austin said.
21st Century Kids of F.R.A.N.K.L.I.N. is a program of the Franklin County Children’s Task Force, a private, nonprofit corporation committed to strengthening families and preventing child abuse and neglect.
