SOUTH PARIS — Jeannette “Janet” Knauer Hamann, 96, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother passed away Friday, Feb. 2, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. She was a resident of Peru.

Janet was born in Rumford, ME on August 11, 1921, the daughter of John and Christine (Cyr) Knauer. As a young girl she attended Mexico schools and graduated from Mexico High School in 1939. In 1945, she married Raymond A. Hamann, her husband of 50 years.

She was a communicant of the Parish of The Holy Savior and for many years was a member of the Chisholm Ski Club, the Mexico Home Extension and a lifelong member of the Mexico Mother’s Club.

Janet worked for the Rumford School Department, in the kitchen at the Rumford Elementary School for 10 years. Sge later wintered for many years in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she volunteered at the Bon Secours Maria Manor, mending and sewing clothing for residents.

She enjoyed entertaining friends and family, quilting, sewing, gardening and, most of all, she loved dancing.

She is survived by her children: Donna Mason and her husband, James, of Poland; Janice Heath of Oxford; Lee Hamann and his wife; Donna; of Rumford; and Roger Hamann and his wife, Joan, of Peru; her sisters Myrtle Milledge of Rumford and Geraldine Burns of Rumford.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Ray; and sisters Barbara Kelly, Frances Ronan and Pauline Dawson.
