Texas Hold’em poker
PARIS — The AMVETS monthly Texas Hold’em poker tournaments are held at from 5 p.m. to midnight on the first Friday of the month at the American Legion Hall.
The event is open to the public. The Auxiliary will have a food concession open from 5 p.m. until the end of second break. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Buy-in is usually $50 with a license fee of $5 and an optional $5 high hand.

Franklin County Democrats to meet
FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Democratic Committee continued its candidate series in January, featuring gubernatorial candidates Jim Boyle and Diane Russell. The candidates fielded questions regarding healthcare, jobs, the economy and education.
The next FCDC business meeting will be on Sunday, Feb. 4.
Upcoming FCDC events include the Democratic caucuses on March 4 and the annual St Patrick’s Day pancake breakfast on March 17. On April 4, the FCDC and the UMF Democrats will host a forum for the 2nd Congressional District candidates at Lincoln Auditorium, UMF. The FCDC will also continue canvassing to hear the concerns of voters.

Sewing, craft group to meet
OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Sewing and Craft Group meets from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays except the third Wednesday of each month, at East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, 231 Rayville Road.
Members are a small group of women who bring their own projects to work on, although occasionally there are group projects.

Board of supervisors to meet
FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will meet at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the USDA Service Center, 107 Park St.
There will be a personnel policy committee meeting at 10 a.m. after the FCSWCD board meeting at the office.

Socrates Cafe cancels January meeting
BRIDGTON — Socrates Cafe will meet Monday, Feb. 5, at the Bridgton Community Center.
The meet and greet will be from 6:15 to 6:30 p.m. and the discussion will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The discussion topic will be “How Do We Better Pursue Happiness?” Those attending should bring a non-political joke. Earl Morse will moderate.

Paint fundraiser benefiting AYS
LIVERMORE FALLS — A paint night fundraiser to benefit Area Youth Sports will be held from 9 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at the AYS building, formerly the Livermore Falls High School, at 25 Cedar St.
All paint nights help with costs associated with maintaining the AYS Gym during winter months. Participants will paint an 11- by 14-inch canvas. Cost is $30 a person or two people for $40. Tickets and registration are available during any home basketball game where concessions are sold. Money is due at the door but all guests must be preregistered.
