FARMINGTON — Franklin County Adult Education is offering a spring woodlot management class, “What to do with That Piece of Forest You Own,” to be held at the end of March. The five-session class will be instructed by various speakers but facilitated by Maine Forest Service District Forester Patty Cormier. It will include discussion of various topics to aid the owner of forest land in making some decisions about that land .
Topics and dates of the sessions, to be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, include:
March 29: Tree ID, steps of planning for the woodlot and some basic mapping programs.
April 5: More on planning, cost share programs available and the Tree Growth Tax Law explained.
April 12: Managing for bird and wildlife habitats.
April 19: Products from a woodlot, i.e. forest product markets and nonforest products.
April 26: Working with professionals, including estate planning to think about.
