NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine, located in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building at 199 Main St., has announced the February calendar.
The center is continuing the healthy eating series with a first Friday class, “Healthy Tip and Tricks,” meeting at 12:30 p.m., a new time. Holly Utt, nutrition educator with Healthy Oxford Hills and a professional chef, will provide recipes and a chance to taste test. All programs offered by the center are free to anyone impacted by cancer, including survivors and caregivers. New visitors are welcome to stop by for information and join in one or all of the activities. In case of inclement weather, when SAD 17 cancels classes, activities sponsored by the center will be canceled as well.
Drop-in hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays. Volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats or pillows, and can help find for resources. They have many pamphlets and a lending library. The center is also a place to relax with a cup of coffee or tea, chat with a volunteer or take time for oneself. Activities such as coloring, knitting or games are available at all times.
Tips for a Healthier You: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2. Participants will start the new year by learning how to eat healthier while staying within budget. Katie Goldberg, nutrition educator with Healthy Oxford Hills, will lead the monthly class. Goldberg will have recipes to share and samples to taste.
Yoga Warriors: 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28, at Posabilities, 15 Tannery St. This free, gentle yoga class will support healthy living for individuals facing the challenges of cancer through gentle movement and breath, supportive restorative yoga postures and guided mediation and relaxation. Banding Together to Restore: 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays, Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22, at Richard Bader Physical Therapy, 176 Main St. The program, led by Lori Britting, is focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching and colored Therabands. Each participant will be encouraged to work within their abilities that will safely gain their desired goals. Getting back energy, gaining ability to move easier and carry out daily tasks and enjoying life are part of the program. Preregistration is encouraged. Yoga for Wellness: 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays. Either Kat Larsen or Sherri will teach the class at the center, which will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing. Check the website for more information.
Introduction to Reiki: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9 (participants should note the new time). Charlotte LaBelle will demonstrate how Reiki helps to alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
Introduction to Reflexology: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23. Karen Tibbetts will demonstrate how applying pressure to reflex points may help improve circulation and reduce body stress.
Stampin’ Up: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7. Kathy will provide materials and instruction to make a variety of cards.
Fabric Crafting with Barbara: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Sew Orchid Design, 316 Main St. Barbara Daigle is teaching a series of nonsewing or beginner sewing crafts for participants to complete.
Beading Project: 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Lively Accents, 310 Main St. Cathy will have a new project for participants to stop in and try.
Coloring for Adults: 2 to 3 p.m.Thursdays. The center has a variety of books and markers available, or participants can bring their own.
