PARIS — Maine Connections Academy, the state’s first virtual public charter school, has selected Jordan Burns, a sophomore from Paris, as its December STAR Student.
Burns was chosen because of his excellent engagement in lessons and likelihood to take advantage of available MCA resources and support. He also demonstrates a real interest in learning by attending school field trips and academic summits.
Burns enrolled at Maine Connections Academy in 2017 when he was seeking an alternative to his public school. He feels that the classes are quieter, which makes it easier to listen to the teacher and enjoy the lessons. His favorite subjects are Honors Algebra, because it comes easy to him, and web design, because it’s fun and creative.
In his spare time, Burns enjoys repairing computers, playing computer games and playing “Zombies, Run!,” an exercise application with a fun twist. He also spends time volunteering with his Boy Scout troop. Burns is interested in a career in computer repair because he enjoys learning how to fix, disassemble, reassemble and upgrade a computer.
