FARMINGTON — Police arrested a second man Sunday on a charge of aggravated trafficking of drugs in downtown Farmington.

Jonathan Toothaker, 22, was arrested Jan. 21 on the felony charge and an additional misdemeanor charge of violating conditions of release, Farmington Police Chief Jack Peck said.

Toothaker’s arrest stems from an arrest on Jan. 12 when police searched the apartment of Omar Havton at 164 Broadway.

After finding cocaine and marijuana, police arrested Havton on a Class A felony charge of aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs. Toothaker was his roommate and was there at the time, Peck said.  

The Broadway apartment is within 1,000 feet of Meetinghouse Park, a drug-free zone, which elevated the charge to Class A, which carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and up to a $50,000 fine.

Police arrested Toothaker on Jan. 12 on two warrants and a violation of conditions of release. 

Toothaker was out on post-conviction bail on a charge of aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs. Conditions of bail included no possession of drugs and no new criminal activity, Peck said.

Based on information gathered during the initial search, police received additional search warrants, including one for Toothaker’s cellphone, he said. 

Police found calls suggesting Toothaker was involved in the drug trafficking and was also selling cocaine from the apartment. Sgt. Edward Hastings IV and Officer Michael Lyman spoke to people who were in the call logs and they confirmed that they bought cocaine from Toothaker, Peck said.

The investigation is ongoing and Peck said he expects the additional search warrants will be completed.
