JAY — Haley Turcotte helped lead the charge as Spruce Mountain erased a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime and then defeated Winthrop 49-44 in the teams’ Mountain Valley Conference contest on Thursday.

Turcotte hit four 3-pointers and finished with a team-leading 18 points for the Phoenix (6-6). Morgan Dalton added 12 in the win, while Calley Baker and Hailee Perkins pulled down 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

Aaliyah WilsonFalcone led all players in the game with 20 points for the Ramblers (7-6).

Gray-New Gloucester 39, Wells 36

GRAY — Gray-New Gloucester amassed a seven-point first half lead and was able to hang on late for a 39-36 victory over Wells in a Class B South girls’ basketball contest on Thursday.

Alexa Thayer and Jordan Grant led the way for Gray-NG (7-5) with 10 points each. Abbey Michaud also added seven in the win.

Mackenzie Foss was the high scorer for Wells (6-5) with 11, followed by Anya Chase’s seven.

Monmouth 56, Hall-Dale 34

FARMINGDALE — Monmouth rode a 20 point second quarter into the second half and eventually the 56-34 win over Hall-Dale on the road in a Class C South girls’ basketball game on Thursday.

Hannah Anderson led the way for Monmouth (11-1) with 11 points. Anderson was a contributor towards Monmouth’s 24 point first half lead that ended up being too much to handle for Hall-Dale (2-10).

Hall-Dale’s Cat Kincaid led her team with eight points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Carrabec 43, Dirigo 36

DIXFIELD — Although Dirigo held steady throughout, it wasn’t enough to defeat Carrabec who earned a first half lead and never looked back, winning 43-36.

Skye Welch led both teams with 16, while Mackenzie Baker of Carrabec (5-7) added 12.

Ashley Perreault of Dirigo (2-10) paced her team with 10 points on two 3s.

Boys’ basketball

Boothbay 52, Oak Hill 43

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Kyle Ames led the charge as Boothbay overcame a tough first half to pull away from Oak Hill for a 52-43 win in MVC boys’ basketball action Thursday.

Hunter Crocker added a double-double with 15 points and 10 board for the Seahawks (8-4), who trailed by three at the half before running off a 19-4 advantage in the third frame to seize control of the game.

Cohen Darnell led the Raiders (4-8) with 10 points, including two 3-pointers. Gavin Dumais added 10 in the loss for Oak Hill.

Madison 57, Mt. Abram 33

STRONG — Madison took an early first-half lead into the second and glided to an easy 57-33 victory over Mt. Abram in a Class C South boys’ basketball matchup.

Sam Whalen led the way for Madison (6-7) with 20 points, the most for either team. Whalen was followed by teammate Evan Bess who added 12.

Evan MacKay paced Mt. Abram (1-11) with nine points with a 3.

Thornton Academy 55, Lewiston 40

LEWISTON — A lopsided second quarter was the difference in the game, as Thornton Academy held on to defeat Lewiston 55-40 in a Class AA boys’ basketball matchup.

Freshman Payton Jones led Thornton (5-5) with 11 points. Thornton outscored Lewiston by 12 in the second quarter to break the tie, leading to the win.

Lewiston’s Ali Omar led all scorers with 14 points, but it wasn’t enough for the win as the blue Devils fell to 2-9.

Hall-Dale 76, Monmouth 44

MONMOUTH — Hall-Dale scored 44 points in the first half to amass a 30 point lead en route to a 76-44 victory over Monmouth in a Class C South boys’ basketball matchup.

Jett Boyer led Hall-Dale (12-0) with 17 points on two treys, while Tyler Nadeau scored 14 points on four 3s of his own.

Monmouth (3-9) was paced by Connor Davies’ 11 points.

Dirigo 48, Carrabec 32

DIXFIELD — Dirigo overcame a slow start to sprint past carrabec, 48-32, in the teams’ MVC Class C basketball contest on Thursday. Cooper Chiasson led all players with 19 points for the Cougars (9-4), while Alex Gorham and Jeremy St. Germain contributed eight each in the win.

Evan Hotzworth hit one from beyond the arc and a team-high 11 points for the Cobras (4-8), while Dylan Willette added nine.
