PARIS — Vaughn P. Estabrook, who served in the Army from 1967 to 1969, has been named the Veteran of the Month at the Maine Veterans’ Home.
Vaughn was born on Feb. 6, 1941, and grew up in Harrison and Durham. Vaughn attended Freeport High School.
In March 1967 Vaughn was drafted into the Army and was stationed at the Army base in Aurora, Colorado. He worked as a medic for the hospital, transporting the injured. Vaughn served during the Vietnam War for about a year. He was honorably discharged in 1969, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Vaughn also received a plaque with airborne wings on it from the 82nd Airborne Division.
Vaughn married Edna and they have two children, Charles and Victoria. They have four grandsons and a great-granddaughter. After being discharged, Vaughn went to work in construction for Bath Iron Works.
He enjoys playing bingo, listening to music, helping out filling the bird feeders and planting. Vaughn came to the Maine Veterans’ Home in 2015 and resides on the B Unit.
