Martin Luther King Day service
FARMINGTON — Farmington Area Ecumenical Ministry will have its annual Martin Luther King Day service at noon Monday, Jan. 15, at Old South First Congregational Church, 227 Main St.
The guest speaker will be Reza Jalali, a writer, educator and Muslim scholar. A refugee from Iran following the Revolution, he is coordinator of the University of Southern Maine’s Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and has taught as an adjunct at USM and Bangor Theological Seminary. He has written a number of books and plays, including “The Poets and the Assassin” and “Moon Watchers.”
Bible study to look at Genesis
AUBURN — Auburn United Methodist Church will have a 10-week bible study looking at the book of Genesis.
The study will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 16 to March 20, at 439 Park Ave.
Based on the 2010 Bill Moyers video series “Genesis: A Living Conversation,” the study will look at religious discourse taking place beyond the politicized rhetoric about God.
