Windham police warned motorists Wednesday to avoid using Windham Center Road for at least the next several days because of a water main break.
Police said in a post on Facebook that the break between Pope Road and School Road is significant and has forced the town’s Public Works Department to close Pleasant River Bridge for the next several days.
“The bridge is likely to remain closed for a few days while the damage is assessed and repairs are made to both the bridge and water main,” police said.
Sanford Prince, superintendent of RSU 14, said the break affected water in the school buildings, but service had been restored by 9:15 a.m. Windham Center Road access to the school campus is closed and the public can use only the Route 202 entrance, Prince said.
A busy stretch in Windham is closed, and could be for days, after a water main break. (WGME/Windham Public Works)
