BOWDOINHAM — Richard Dean Shaffer, 61, of Bowdoinham, passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born October 11, 1956 in Urbana, Ohio, the son of Lawrence Shaffer and Donna (Nelson) Shaffer. He was a 1975 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. Following graduation he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. On Oct. 26, 2002, in Livermore, he married Cathy French. He worked at Bath Iron Works as an electrical design supervisor. He enjoyed traveling in their RV, sports and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Rick especially loved time spent with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his mother, Donna Hannon Palmer, of Livermore, his wife, Cathy French, of Bowdoinham, daughters, Richelle Shaffer and wife, Laura Miceli, of Raleigh, N.C., Amanda Allen and her husband, Stephen, of Livermore Falls, and stepdaughter, Sarah Brockman and fiancé James Lucas of Topsham, his son, Jonathan Shaffer of Gray, stepson, Adam Brockman and wife, Rachel, of Lisbon Falls, grandchildren, Sydney, Tateum, Vincent, Andrew, Riley and Austin, siblings, Randy Shaffer and wife, Jane, of Portland, Rusty Shaffer of East Dixfield, Teri Sherrets and husband Steve of North Monmouth, Jim and Christie Shaffer, both of Ohio, several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his stepfather, Ernie Hannon.
