Trinity Greek Orthodox Church has temporary priest

LEWISTON — Father Peter Leneweaver of Braintree, Massachusetts, has been named the temporary priest serving Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Parish Council President John Kroger made the announcement recently.

Father Peter Day retired at the end of June, and the Metropolis of Boston has supplied visiting priests since that time.

Leneweaver was born in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas where he attended Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Leneweaver first arrived in Boston in the early 1990s, when he studied at Hellenic College in Brookline. He has been living in the New England area for the past 17 years. He is married to Presbytera Kathleen and together they have two young daughters, Zoe and Mia.

In 2012, Leneweaver completed the Program of the Diaconate and was ordained to the Holy Diaconate in April of 2013. While a Deacon of the Boston Metropolis, Leneweaver continued his studies at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, and earned a master’s of theological studies. He is currently working for Dunkin’ Brands, the parent company of Dunkin’ Donuts. Leneweaver was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in November by His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios.

Leneweaver will serve liturgies regularly, Kroger said. He will stay in town on the weekends due to the generosity of parishioners.

Leneweaver will remain through the spring, particularly through the upcoming Great and Holy Lent, which will commence on Monday, Feb. 19, for the Eastern Orthodox Church and continue through Holy Week, April 1 to 8, concluding on Sunday, April 8, Pascha (the Eastern Orthodox equivalent of Easter in the Western churches).

Kroger said Leneweaver will be here for the entirety of Holy Week, leading the traditional daily services from Palm Sunday through Pascha.
