Lewiston-Auburn College will offer expanded degree programs through a new partnership between the University of Southern Maine and the University of Maine at Augusta.

UMA is enrolling students at the Lewiston campus in business administration and public administration degree programs. Registration has started for classes beginning on Jan. 22.

In addition, UMA will offer baccalaureate degrees in applied sciences and liberal studies to community college graduates who have earned associate’s degrees.

Aspiring teachers will be able to enroll in education classes “that provide a pathway for K-12 teaching opportunities,” according to a news release.

“Maine needs an educated workforce, and we need to work together to achieve it. That is why UMA and USM’s collaboration is a win for everyone,” UMA President Rebecca Wyke said in a written statement.

“USM’s partnership with UMA demonstrates that by working together, we can provide more opportunities for the people who live and work in central Maine,” USM President Glenn Cummings said in a statement. “Moreover, we’re just getting started. With both universities fully committed to doing all we can to help build a better future in this critically important region of Maine, we expect to announce additional degree offerings in the future.”

As the two Maine universities build on their partnership, additional options under consideration for the Lewiston campus are expected to include expanded offerings in the areas of nursing and health professions, occupational therapy, cybersecurity, justice studies, and mental health and human services, according to the news release.
