AUBURN — Lorraine C. Charest died Saturday, Dec. 30, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born in Waterville on May 15, 1939, the daughter of the late Conrad and Lillian Veilleux. Lorraine was a devoted, loving wife and mother who also loved to cook and play bingo. She was quite lucky in her game of chance.

She worked at Patenaud’s Market in Augusta while attending Cony High School. Soon after she met the love of her life, Richard Charest, of Lewiston. Lorriane and Richard were married on July 4, 1959. They settled in the Lewiston, Durham and Auburn areas, where they lived for more than 50 years.

Lorraine was employed at General Electric, Geiger Brothers, Per’ce Medical Billing, and BJ’s Wholesale Club. At one time, Lorraine started and ran Lorraine’s Variety on Second Street in Auburn, selling sandwiches and homemade lunches as well as Christmas meat pies to families in the area.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Charest and daughter, Lisa Charest.

She is survived by a son, Donald Charest, of Lewiston and daughters Susan Webster of Rochester, N.H.; Denise Ouellette and husband, Dennis Ouellette, of Topsham; and Sandra Reynolds and husband, Arthur Reynolds, of Oxford; and was blessed to have six grandchildren: Nicole Denning, Randy Mailloux, Sarah Ouellette, Erin Steorts, Cruise Webster and Jamie Flynn; and 12 great-grandchildren.
