BRUNSWICK — Franklin ”Old Grump” McDonald Sr., 94, of Arrowsic Road, died Friday, Dec. 22, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

He was born in Bath on June 28, 1923, a son of Joseph L. and Alice Mae (Harrison) McDonald.

He entered the U.S. Marines in 1943 during World War II. He was employed at Bath Iron Works in Bath, Oakhurst Dairy in Bath for two years, then became a fireman at the Brunswick Naval Air Base for 20 years. He was then employed at Supervisor of Ships in Bath as a guard for 22 years, where he was a member of the Guard Association. He was married to Beverly J. McDonald for 42 years.

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed reloading with his friends.

Frank was a lifetime member of the NRA.

He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly McDonald, on Nov. 15, 1987.

He is survived by two sons, Larry McDonald and his wife, Dianne, of Brownville and Franklin McDonald Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Five Islands; one daughter, Patricia Mains, and her husband, Charles, of Georgetown; one brother, David Pinkham, and his wife, Mary, of Bath; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
