TROY, N.Y. — Nolan Vesey had a pair of goals in first three plus minutes of the game to pace the Black Bears past the Engineers 3-2 in a non-conference contest. He also had an assist in the contest.
Vesey’s first goal came 62 seconds into the game assisted by Patrick Shea. His next goal, his seventh of the season, came at 3:13 mark which was assisted by Shea and Tim Doherty.
RPI cut the deficit in half as Billy Jerry found the back of the net with 7:09 remaining in the game.
Vesey set up Doherty for his ninth goal of the season just past the eight minute mark of the middle frame. Patrick Holway also recorded an assist.
Evan Tironese scored on the power play late in the third period for the Engineers.
Rob McGovern made 27 saves in the victory while Linden Marshall stopped 32 shots in the loss.
Men’s basketball
Bates 78, Babson 75
LEWISTON — The Bates College men’s basketball team used a hot-shooting first half to assume a 15-point halftime lead and held on to defeate Babson 78-75 in non-conference basketball action Friday afternoon.
Jeff Spellman scored 18 points with five assists, and Nick Gilpin added 10 points for the Bobcats (7-3). Nick Lynch contributed eight rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots for Bates.
Andrew Jaworski scored a game-high 25 points for the Beavers (5-5), while Bradley Jacks added 17 points and nine rebounds.
Bates shot lights-out in the first half, shooting 22-for-35 from the floor and making 11-of-18 from beyond the arc. Seven different players made threes for the Bobcats in the half, with Shawn Strickland, Kody Greenhalgh and Eli Frater all going 2-for-2 in the winning effort.
