LEWISTON — Healthy Androscoggin has announced that StoryWalk is back. The children’s activity has moved to Lisbon Street and is open until early February.
Parents are invited to walk with their children along Lisbon Street to read the story, “The Bugliest Bug” by Carol Diggory Shields. The activity is suitable for children ages 4 to 8 and takes 20 to 30 minutes.
StoryWalk begins at the Lewiston Public Library, loops around Lisbon Street and ends at Kimball Street Studios. Participants can acquire a map of the walk at the library. StoryWalk is free and open to the public.
StoryWalk is a children’s literacy and physical activity project that combines the joys of reading and walking. StoryWalk takes the pages of a children’s story and posts them along a walking route. Each station contains one page of the story and encourages kids to act out different physical activities.
The StoryWalk concept began in Vermont and has spread across New England. Many towns in Maine have had StoryWalks.
