JAY — A lack of volunteers and financing could put the future of Spruce Mountain Ski Area in jeopardy.

A GoFundMe page, https://www.gofundme.com/sprucekid, has been set up to raise money.

“We are looking at other ways to raise money at the mountain,” Mountain Administrator Rebecca Harmatys said.

The ski area plans to open Tuesday, Dec. 26, as has been the tradition, but volunteers are needed to help groom trails, repair equipment and to be at the mountain when it is in operation.

“This year we would like to have parents check into the lodge when dropping off their children to see if help is needed. Volunteers are always needed for concessions and when we host races,” Harmatys said.

She said improvements and changes to the lodge and trails are always ongoing. The “White Knights” have started making snow and help is always needed.
