YORK — Gray-New Gloucester pulled off a 40-38 victory in overtime Thursday, defeating York by a score of 40-38 in a key early-season Western maine Conference girls’ basketball tilt.
Jordan Grant led the Patriots with 17 points, while teammate Bri Jordan chipped in 13 of her own in the win.
Nina Howe scored 19 for York, leading both teams.
Both teams are now 1-1.
Boothbay 65, Mt. Abram 40
SALEM — Page Brown scored 16 points Thursday, including the 1,000th point of her career, to propel Boothbay to a 65-40 win over Mt. Abram in MVC girls’ action.
Brown was helped by Glory and Faith Blethen, who added 11 and 12 points, respectively.
Summer Ross led all scorers as she dropped 21 points for Mt. Abram in the loss. Megan Sorel added 10.
Boothbay moves to 1-0 with its first win in its first game of the season, while Mt. Abram falls to 1-1.
Mountain Valley 70, Telstar 38
BETHEL — Freshman Rylee Sevigny followed up her 20-point opening game with 16 more in Game 2 for Mountain Valley on Thursday, helping the Falcons defeat Telstar 70-38.
Sister Avery Sevigny chipped in 13 of her own in the win.
Telstar’s Lucy Rothwell led the team with 13 points and also grabbed 12 rebounds in defeat.
Mountain Valley moves to 2-0 with the win, while Telstar falls to 0-2.
Carrabec 31, Hall Dale 29
FARMINGDALE — Carrabec jumped out to an early lead and, despite only scoring eight second-half points, were able to hold off Hall Dale by a score of 31-29.
Bailey Dunphy led all scorers with 12 for Carrabec, adding two threes. Skye Welch chipped in seven.
Hall Dale’s Olivia Bourque led her squad with six points from two treys.
Carrabec moves to 2-0 with the win, while Hall Dale finds themselves at 1-1.
Spruce Mountain 49, Dirigo 40
DIXFIELD — Haley Turcotte scored 26 points, including with five 3-pointers, to help lead Spruce Mountain to a 49-40 comeback win over Dirigo in MVC basketball action.
Turcotte’s teammate Hailee Perkins scored eight points.
Sophia Jacques led Dirigo with 11 points in the loss.
Dirigo is 0-2 after Thursday’s loss, while Spruce moves to 1-1.
Boys’ hockey
Cape Elizabeth 4, St. Dom’s 2
CAPE ELIZABTEH — Alex Glidden and Ryan Collins each scored two goals as Cape Elizabeth defeated St. Dom’s 4-2 on Thursday in boys’ hockey.
Phil Turling assisted both of Glidden’s goals and assisted one of Collins’ on the night.
Mack Pelletier scored the opener for St. Dom’s, followed by a goal from Jacob Lewis.
