The local nominees to the United States military academies were recently announced. To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized nominating source, which includes members of Congress. Admission to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, also a federal service academy, does not require a congressional nomination.

The following local students have received nominations as candidates to the military academies:

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York: Elizabeth Diaz of Jay.

U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York: Sierra Weston of Winthrop.

U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland: Emily Mousseau of Lewiston and John Wallace of Topsham.
