LOVELL — Storyteller Andy Davis will be featured in a public program for adults at noon on Friday, Dec. 15, at the Charlotte Hobbs Library.
The occasion is the second anniversary of the Hobbs Story Swap, which has been meeting monthly to exchange stories since January 2016. All story swap programs are free and open to anyone who wishes to listen to — or tell — stories.
Friday’s celebration will start with short stories on the theme “the weather outside” followed by holiday refreshments and a special concert of stories by Albany, New Hampshire, storyteller Andy Davis.
Davis will present some of the best tales from his repertoire with some new and old favorites. Included will be a tale born out of a World War II experience of his father, a dream sequence about the New Hampshire primary, the story of a ghostly librarian, a smattering of poetry — and perhaps (since Davis is known for his mischievous humor) something canine and shaggy.
Over the past 16 years, in the grip of a passionate avocation as a storyteller, Davis has carried his rucksack of tales tall and true from Paris to Bamako to San Diego. He lives with his wife and teenage daughter in the southeastern corner of the White Mountains, where he co-directs the World Fellowship Center, a peace and justice oriented camp and retreat center. His eventual retirement plan is to be a semi-itinerant bicycling storyteller.
Adults and older children who can listen like grown-ups are invited to come and put their name in the hat to share a memory of “The Weather Outside” in a 5-minute story, or just to listen. Those attending may bring a brown-bag lunch; the library will provide beverages and party foods.
