Drawing players from sports that have enjoyed recent success such as soccer, football and lacrosse, Lewiston basketball is hoping some of that winning can rub off on the hardwood this year.

“It’s a lot of highly competitive kids who are hard workers,” coach Tim Farrar said. “But it’s also some kids who haven’t played in the program before but have played a lot of basketball.”

The Blue Devils lost one of their top scorers, senior forward Ibn Khalid, who transferred to Edward Little. But they do return their most consistent player, senior forward Garrett Poussard. Players who played intermittent varsity roles last year such as Jeremy Madore, Yasin Mohamud, Derek Foy and Damien Poulin will be asked to contribute more.

Lewiston will have its work cut out for it if it wants to make the AA North tournament. But if the Devils jell and improve as the season progresses, as Farrar expects they will, they could be a tough first-round opponent for the region’s top teams.
