NORWAY — Norway’s Gingerbread House is “buttoned up” for the winter, but the lit candles in all the north and west windows highlight the transformations that have occurred this year.
The north and west side have their final bright coats of pain and most of the windows have been repaired and restored, as has the original front door.
Plans for next spring and summer include finishing the turret, repairing and painting most of the rest of the exterior and finishing the window restoration.
The Friends of the Gingerbread House are in the middle of their fall appeal. In addition to the traditional request for funding, they are inviting people to participate in a new category, the “Corbel Circle.”
In return for a pledge of $1,000 to be paid over the course of two to three years, participants will receive a small corbel replica of the original corbels on the Gingerbread House. There will also be additional invitations to Corbel Circle participants for events at the house.
Friends of the Gingerbread House will join the Norway Historical Society at Norway Downtown’s “Friday Shopping Nights” in December. They will be at the Norway Historical Society, selling Gingerbread House merchandise and crafts and will be available to talk and answer questions about the project and their plans for next year.
