WILTON — Selectpersons have unanimously approved a notice of intent to award a contract for demolition at the former Forster Manufacturing mill to EnviroVantage for $372,689.
The bid by the environmental and remedial contractor, based in New Hampshire, was the lowest of five received. In November, the company won the bid to undertake the asbestos abatement work at the Depot Street mill.
The bid fits within the $505,000 available for the work, Town Manager Rhonda Irish said. The five bids for the demolition work ranged from EnviroVantage’s bid up to $799,300.
Selectpersons expect to award a contract and hold a public meeting Dec. 19. Representatives from EnviroVantage, along with the town’s environmental contractor Ransom Consulting, are expected to attend and explain the schedule for the work, Irish said.
Four sections of the mill will be demolished. Demolition includes bringing the building down and removing it, she said. The concrete underneath will stay in place for now.
For the demolition work, which must begin no later than April 30, three months have been allotted for completion once started.
A substantial amount of the asbestos abatement work has to be done by Jan. 12 and all of the abatement work is to be completed by Jan. 26, according to the contract.
