DEAR SUN SPOTS: In November, I had a bad accident on Route 4 near Hannaford, and would like to thank Wilbur Benner of Buckfield and Barbara Damour of Greene. They both stayed with me and made sure I was OK until help arrived. I hope they read Sun Spots like I do! Thanks again.

ANSWER: So glad you had those two good Samaritans at your side, Jeanette. May they be blessed many times over for assisting you, and I do hope you have fully recovered from this mishap!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Calling all veterans with home repair experience! The Maine Veterans Project Home Repair Program assists veterans with home repairs. Most, if not all, of the supplies are donated and all the labor is volunteered.

To date, there are at least two veterans in Androscoggin County who have been identified for these services. Our hope is that after getting both these projects completed, we can move forward with other projects in the area.

Maine Veterans Project in Bangor provides supplies and materials but not volunteers. We are gathering a group of veterans with carpentry experience to volunteer to help these older veterans. One of our first two projects is in Poland. The veteran is in his 60s, served in the Marines, and is disabled.

The second project is for a veteran, age 83, who served in the military during the Korean War era. He cares for his wife, who has cancer. The home needs a new roof on a small first-floor addition.

To get started, we need someone with knowledge in home repair to come with me to the properties to assess the work involved and what supplies would be needed.

All veterans who would be interested in helping out other veterans, contact me at 346-1131 or e-mail linlaj@yahoo.com. Thank you.
