ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Brandon Corey completed a natural hat trick in dramatic fashion, scoring just over three minutes into overtime to lift host Roc City over the Lewiston/Auburn Nordiques, 6-5, in NA3HL action Sunday afternoon.
The Royals trailed 5-3 with time winding down in the third period when Corey scored a pair of goals 74 seconds apart to send the game to an extra period. Christopher Crowley and Mason Besser then fed him 3:06 into overtime to finish off both the hat trick and the comeback victory.
Cole Ouellette had a pair of goals in the loss for the Nordiques, opening the scoring with a shorthanded goal 11 minutes into the first period, then scoring again four minutes into the second to give L/A a 3-2 lead.
Lucas Perry scored 1:17 into the second to give the Nordiques a 2-1 lead after Hunter Reid had tied it late in the first for the Royals. Colby Audette’s goal midway through the second made it 4-2 L/A.
Crowley cut the deficit to one early in the third before Andrew McCormick scored a shorthanded goal to give the Nordiques a 5-3 lead.
Jason St. Pierre made 28 saves in net for the Nordiques, while Josh Martinez stopped 45 of 50 shots for the Royals.
