JAY — Charles W. Martin, 77, a resident of Jay, passed away suddenly Saturday, Nov. 25, at his home, following a long battle with diabetes, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 26, 1940, in Fayette, the son of Raymond Martin and Arlene (Rose) Martin. He attended school in Livermore Falls. On Aug. 19, 1966, he married his wife of 51 years, Judith Holman.
Charlie worked for International Paper Company in Jay at the Otis Mill and later transferred to the Androscoggin Mill and worked in the storeroom. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Farmington, the Eagles Club in Rumford, Snowshoe Club in Rumford, West Farmington Fire Department, Amvets – Am Friend, Hillside Sports, Jay-Livermore Falls Travel Golf League, the International Paper Company Quarter Century Club, and a former president of the Andy Valley Snowmobile Riders.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Martin of Jay; two daughters, Laureen Iverson and her husband, Guy, of Chesterville and Aleece Martin-Kaulback and husband, Dayl, of Mexico; two sisters, Gloria Pepin and companion, Ed Bent, of Wilton and Glennis Conant of Turner; son-in-law, Cliff Audette of Farmington; in-laws, Arlene Martin of Lisbon and Hazen Hutchinson of Poland; six grandchildren, Alfred III, Damien, and Desiree Dufour, Kristi Iverson, Brandon Audette, and Brianna Martin; and three great-grandchildren, Trey, Teagan and Caden.
He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Vickie Audette; brother, Gerry Martin; sisters, Irene Kennedy and Eleanor Hutchinson; and brother-in-law, Bernie Conant.
