WEST PARIS — The First Universalist Church of West Paris invites all to attend 9 a.m. Sunday worship services, led by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson, guest speakers and the Worship Service Committee.
The December schedule is as follows:
Dec. 3: “Hope, the Singular Gift,” led by Stephenson. In the Christian tradition, this is the first Sunday of Advent, a time of expectation. The congregation will explore the gift of hope that the Christmas season brings.
Dec. 10: “What are We Waiting For?” Waiting is also a traditional theme during the season of Advent. But what are we waiting for now and how might we actually “wait?” The service will be led by guest speaker, Joan Beal.
Dec. 17: “Hands-on — A Fantasy for the 21st Century.” One of Jennifer Wixson’s recurring fantasies is that a worldwide electrical malfunction leaves the United States unable to wage war and forces young people to turn to their elders for their survival. In her pastoral message, she paints an engaging picture of a fully integrated life, physically, emotionally and spiritually, and why that life most likely will come around again. Wixson, a former Quaker minister, is a farmer and author living in Troy.
Dec. 24: Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 5 p.m., led by Stephenson. It will be a traditional service of readings and carols for the family. There will be special music and participants from the congregation.
Dec. 31: “Celebrating Renewal” is the theme of the service, led by the Worship Service Committee. They will explore what renewal means — recharging? awakening? change? something else?
