KILLINGTON, Vt. — Mikaela Shiffrin admitted Friday night that she is jealous of Sofia Goggia because Bode Miller identifies with the Italian World Cup ski racer.

Shiffrin let slip that the Carrabassett Valley Academy alumnus and Olympic champion had remarked at last season’s World Cup finals that Goggia’s mentality toward ski racing reminded him of himself, Shiffin told Goggia at a press conference at Killington Ski Resort on the eve of a women’s World Cup giant slalom.

“And I was like — so jealous,” Shiffrin told her competitor who sat in the chair beside her.

Goggia said Miller’s comment had likely been a bit of an exaggeration.

“I wish I had a little Bode Miller inside of me,” she said. She also said she wished she possessed Shiffrin’s focused determination.

Miller had dropped in on the press conference Friday evening, but had ducked out shortly before Shiffrin’s reference to him.

Miller announced last month that he will serve as a commentator for NBC Sports during the PyeongChang, South Korea Winter Olympics later this season rather than seeking a spot on the U.S. Olympic team as he has the past five games.
