LEWISTON — Central Maine Power reported over 5,000 outages Sunday, with over 2,000 in York County and more than 1,500 in Oxford County at it’s highest, most due to weather-related damage.
Outages were down to 1,900 customers at 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service forecasted wind speeds of 10 to 20 mph with possible gusts up to 45 mph. It issued a wind warning Sunday afternoon for central, western and southern Maine effective until midnight.
National Weather Service meteorologist Eric Sinsabaugh said the wind has been pretty consistent Sunday afternoon, with gusts across the area around 30-45 mph. The NWS measured a peak gust in Jackman of 50 mph.
Sinsabaugh said the damage is “probably mainly trees that were weakened in the big storm,” as downed wires and trees were reported throughout the early evening.
The winds started dying off Sunday evening, but Sinsabaugh said it will remain breezy and cold overnight and Monday.
“By the end of tomorrow things should be normal,” he said.
