After seven games without recording a multi-point game, the L/A Nordiques second-leading scorer Shayne Plummer broke that streak Saturday afternoon against the Cape Cod Islanders. He sparked the Nordiques with two goals and a helper in a 3-2 victory over the Islanders at Falmouth Ice Arena in Falmouth, Massachusetts.

“He kind of went into a little slump in goal scoring in the last five games, he’s been saying,” L/A Nordiques coach Cam Robichaud said. “He did have a few assists, but he wasn’t up to his expectations where he should be point wise. He was doing a lot of things well, he competes, he backchecks, takes faceoffs for us and kills penalties. He was still playing well, but he wasn’t cashing in on some opportunities which he was frustrated about.”

Plummer now has 12 goals and 26 assists in 21 games.

Cam St. Amand gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead with 4:16 remaining in the first period with Jacob Huss notching the lone assist on the play.

The Nordiques drew even when the Plummer and Caleb Labrie duo struck. Labrie found Plummer for his 11th goal of the season with 1:54 remaining in the opening period.

L/A took the lead heading into the third period when St. Dom’s sophomore William Fletcher, who was called up for the weekend, potted his first goal with the Nordiques with 1:18 remaining in the period. Assists went to Plummer and Andrew McCormick.

“He had a big goal, it was tied 1-1,” Robichaud said. “He scored to make it 2-1, he’s a young kid, real big with a lot of skill. I think it was a little adjustment with the speed and physicality, but he adapted well.”

The Nordiques took the momentum into the third period when Plummer notched his second goal of the contest, 46 seconds into the frame.

Cape Cod cut the deficit to one when Lewiston native Cody Doyon notched his third goal of the season on the penalty kill with St. Amand and Huss picking up their second points of the evening 6:34 remaining in the period.

“We were up 3-1 and we had a power play opportunity and we had a bad faceoff play that led to a quick break for Cody, who’s a real fast skater,” Robichaud said. “He came straight up the middle of the ice and shot it and went five hole to make it 3-2.”

The Nordiques were 0-for-2 on the power play while the Islanders were 0-for-6.

Michael Errico made 33 saves in the victory while Jay native Esa Maki made 41 saves for Cape Cod.

The two teams face each other again Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in Cape Cod.
