AUBURN — Gerard R. Belanger Jr., 73, of Auburn passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 12, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 26, 1944, a son of the late Gerard and Evelyn (Simpson) Belanger Sr. He was raised in New Auburn and attended local schools. He was a graduate of Edward Little High School Class of 1962.
After high school, Gerry attended business college for two years. He then worked as a banker for First Manufacturers Bank and then later worked for Fleet Bank and retired from Camden National Bank as a commercial loan officer.
On May 21, 1999, he married Karen Nyberg and the two of them spent 18 wonderful years together. During that time they enjoyed golf vacations, skiing and spending time with family. Gerry also taught classes for the American Institute of Banking, was a past board president of the Boys and Girls Club, sat on the city of Auburn Board of Assessment Review and was an adviser for Junior Achievement. He played basketball in a men’s recreation league until age 57. He was also an avid golfer and a longtime member at Martindale Country Club where he fully enjoyed the time he spent out on the course. For several years he coached baseball in the New Auburn Little League. He will be deeply missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Nyberg of Auburn; his children, Michael G. Belanger and his wife, Jess, of Brunswick and Diane L. Belanger of Lewiston. He also leaves behind a sister, Mary Lou Magno and her husband, Florian Magno Jr., of Litchfield; a niece, Loriann Bosse and her husband, Paul, and their daughter Caroline; and two grandchildren, James and Lily Belanger.
He was predeceased by his sister, Donna L. Belanger .
