AUBURN — The wedding of Neria Lauren Douglass and Alvaro Garcia Garcia of New York, New York, was held on Oct. 14, at the First Universalist Unitarian Church in Auburn. The Rev. Jodi Hayashida officiated at the ceremony, with Phil House as organist.
 
Mrs. Douglass is the daughter of Neria Douglass, attorney and former Maine treasurer, and Paul Douglass, attorney of Auburn. Mr. Garcia is the son of Encarni and Luis Garcia, each retired, of Donastia/San Sebastian, Spain.
 
Sheena Thomas, college roommate of the bride, was maid of honor. Ryan Douglass, brother of the bride, was best man. Augustin Douglass, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.
 
The bride is the granddaughter of Neria Kohl Ryder of Auburn and James E. Ryder of Tucson, Arizona and of Roland H. Douglass of Auburn and the late Marjorie Brumit Douglass. The bridegroom is the grandson of the late Petra Antona and Aureliano Garcia and of the late Amalia Torrens and Luis Garcia, formerly of Salamanca, Spain.
 
Mrs. Douglass earned a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience at Wellesley College and a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Columbia University. She is currently employed at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City.
 
Mr. Garcia earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacology and a doctorate in neuroscience from the University of Pamplona, Spain. He is assistant professor in neurobiology at Columbia University and a research fellow at the Division of Integrative Neuroscience, New York State Psychiatric Institute, Columbia University.
 
A reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents in Auburn. The couple will live in New York City.
