NORWAY — Robert Lee Pickett, 95, of Mechanic Falls, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 2, at Stephens Memorial Hospital surrounded by his wife and daughter.
He was born at home in Boonton, N.J., on June 12, 1922, the son of Roy C. and Mae Lillian Heath Pickett. Robert attended Boonton schools and joined the U. S. Army during World War II, serving overseas. On May 1, 1943, he married Arline E. McCarthy; they enjoyed 74 years of marriage. Following his honorable discharge he worked for Fisher Brothers in Boonton, at Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County, at Aircraft Radio in Boonton Township, Rowe Manufacturing and then at School Street School in Boonton, from which he retired.
Robert and his wife Arline moved to Maine, where they designed and built their home. He was a gentleman farmer, tending to his apple trees and gardens since 1986. He loved hunting and fishing, being outdoors. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member of the local club for many years. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Arline, of Mechanic Falls; his children, Judith of Hopatcong, N.J., Randy of Lewiston, Scott of Hopatcong, N.J., and David and his wife, Doreen (Nunn) of Rockaway, N.J.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Lee Arline Pickett, of Boonton, N.J.; and two brothers, Walter and Paul Pickett.
