FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Children’s Task Force has announced the next schedule for parenting classes.

Unless otherwise noted, the workshops will take place at the Children’s Task Force, 113 Church St.

1-2-3 Magic: For caregivers of children ages 2 to 12, this offers parenting solutions that are easy to learn and that work. The course covers “stop” and “start” behaviors. Sessions include: 

• Single session from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18.

• 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 15, 22 and 29, at Mallett Elementary School.

• 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays, Nov. 27 and Dec. 11, at Rangeley Lakes Regional School, Rangeley.

• From 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Nov. 27, at Farmington Head Start.

• Single session from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20.

Alcohol, Anger & Abuse: 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays, March 26, April 11, 18 and 25. A group-based prevention sessions for parents and professionals, this innovative community-based training program for parents and professionals explores the understanding and prevention of the relationship between alcohol and other drug use and child abuse and neglect.

Families in Substance Abuse Treatment & Recovery

From 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 14, 21, Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25, Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22, March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29.

These group-based workshops are ideal for partners of parenting adults in treatment and recovery, extended family who may be parenting children of substance abusing adults and adults in treatment and/or recovery who are in parenting relationships with children.

Surviving Your Adolescents — How to Manage & Let Go of Your 13- to 18-Year-Olds: Single sessions from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 14 and 21. From the creator of 1-2-3 Magic, this program takes a step-by-step approach that will help end hassles and offer concrete solutions. Caregivers will learn the difference between teens and parents, what problems require professional attention, five ways to improve any parent/teen relationship, tactics to combat testing and manipulation.

Active Parenting: First Five Years: This workshop for parents with children ages birth to 5. No one is born knowing how to parent. This class addresses basic skills for new parents, caregivers, and early childhood staff. Sessions include:

• 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 22, 29, Feb. 5, 12.

• 9 to 11 a.m. Thursdays, Oct. 19, 26, Nov. 9, 16, at Farmington Head Start.

Nurturing Parenting: This is a 10-week workshop for parents with children of any age. Parents will learn new skills and attitudes important in building self-worth in children. They’ll have the opportunity to connect and talk with other parents. Snacks will be provided.

• Single session from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Wilton Head Start.

• 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov  7, 14, 28, Dec. 5, 12, 19, 26, Jan. 2, 9, 16, at Fairbanks Church.

Active Parenting Now: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 26, March 5, 12, 19, 26, April 2. This is a six-week workshop for caregivers of children ages 5 to 12. Participants will work as a group with other dads to learn more about fatherhood. Each class provides proven skills that foster and support healthy family relationships and child development.

Nurturing Fathers: 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13, 20, 27, Jan. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, Feb. 7, 14, 21. This 13-week workshop for fathers with children of any age. Each class provides proven skills that foster and support healthy family relationships and child development.
