MEXICO — Heal Yourself Naturally, which offers cannabis products, accessories and education, is starting classes Thursday at 128 Main St.
Owner Don Hamann, a licensed medical cannabis caregiver since 2011, said the classes are “for making cannabis-infused products like butter and olive/coconut oil for people to ingest. A lot of people are learning to cook healthier for themselves.”
The classes will be held every Thursday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
“It will be $20 per class,” he said. “I will try it for a couple of months and see where it goes, if it’s what the people want. I’ve got a lot of people bugging me to do it.”
Hamann said his business has been open for more than two months next to the Town Office. He purchased the former Knights of Pythias building from Mike and Kent Mann.
“It’s been kind of slow going, but that’s kind of what I wanted to do,” Hamann said. “We just got the kitchen all set up and the inspector has shown up.”
Hamann said it’s the older crowd that’s coming here. “It’s all been medicine and people looking for information. Not everybody’s got crops this year, but everybody has a friend or family member that has a good crop.”
He said, “To tell you the truth, I’d rather see people start from seed. Just like the people that do their own gardens and won’t eat anyone else’s food. When you’re making own, you should make your own medicine. Of course, I’ll going to have medicine for all the people who don’t have time.”
He said his business is more than just selling cannabis products. He has a second sign beneath his business sign that reads, ‘Medical Cannabis Research & Educational Center.’
“It’s teaching and having people do their own thing,” he said, “because most people aren’t going to be able to afford it. So if I can teach how to find their way with it, make it themselves from start to finish.”
Mexico approved a medical marijuana dispensary and medical marijuana cultivation facilities ordinance on Feb. 28.
Town Manager Jack Gaudet said Hamann explained to him what he wanted to do with his business.
“I don’t have a problem with it, as long as he only does what he talked about,” Gaudet said.
