DEAR SUN SPOTS: The YWCA of Central Maine is seeking new and gently used items for its rummage sale. It takes place at the annual Christmas Craft Fair on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the YWCA during the Lewiston Winter Farmers’ Market. Needed donations include holiday and home décor, jewelry, cookware and glassware. We don’t accept clothing, shoes or electronics.
We also need contributions from businesses and artists for the silent auction. We will have holiday vendors, a free holiday craft table for children and a full breakfast with Santa that includes photo opportunities. Admission to the farmers’ market and fair are free and the cost for the breakfast is $7 for adults, $5 for children and $17 for families. For more information, call the YWCA at 795-4050.

ANSWER: Time to clean out all the storage places to see what you can gather together to benefit this terrific organization. While you’re at it, take those outgrown shoes and clothes to your local clothing bank or homeless shelter. If you need ideas for places to donate, ask Mrs. Sun Spots!

ANSWER: What a wonderful opportunity to share your skills and give to your community. I have had some great adult ed experiences that have included learning how to use my camera and brush up on my French. I’ve been introduced to tai chi and yoga, as well as to the ukulele! Attending adult ed classes is so affordable and gets us out of the house during these long winter evenings. Potential teachers, your students await!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m hoping someone can offer remedies for restless legs. I’d like to hear from anyone who has the same issue and uses something that has results. I know there are a lot of people with this problem.
— No name, no town
ANSWER: There are many home remedies and prescription drugs out there, used with different degrees of success. I do know it’s very important to get enough exercise. Simple leg stretches, yoga and massage can help. So does not sitting too long and having good sleep habits. I’ve heard drinking tonic water helps as does having a warm bath and alternating hot and cold packs. Sometimes people with this issue have a Vitamin B or magnesium deficiency. Since I’m not a doctor, I only can advise that you see a medical professional for advice on how to relieve your discomfort.
