Local unit to be thanked
LEWISTON — Holy Family Church recognize the Army 619th Transportation Company from Auburn during its 14th annual Community Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at Holy Family Church.
A contingency will join in this community-wide event.
The 619th has received accolades as a RDF (Ready Deployment Force) by the 94 ARCOM. They have been deployed to the Middle East several times.
Pine Cone Chapter to meet
AUBURN — Pine Cone Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.
The chapter will honor the Star Point stations, Lynette Ramsey, grand Adah; Roberta Coates, grand Ruth; Judith Getchell, grand Esther; Mary Zimmerman, grand Martha; and Lorena Fenlason, grand Electa will present a special program. The grand star points of 2015-2016 will present the ribbon ceremony.
The meeting will be preceded by a potluck supper at 6 p.m. All Eastern Star members are welcome.
Grange to have holiday program
AUBURN — Danville Junction Grange will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, when a Thanksgiving program will be presented at the grange. Refreshments will be served at the close of the program.
Members are reminded to bring Thanksgiving donations for PAL and clipped coupons for the troops.
All members and guests are invited to attend.
Center hosting day trip to New Hampshire
LEWISTON — Mitch Thomas, executive director at the Gendron Franco Center, and Bert Dutil, bus trip leader, will host a day-long bus trip to Indian Head Resort and the Christmas Loft in New Hampshire, on Saturday, Nov. 18.
The cost of the trip is $84 a person and will depart from the center at 6:45 a.m. The group will return to Lewiston by 6:30 p.m.
The ticket includes transportation, a buffet dinner and dessert, music and dancing, admission to the “Don Who” Christmas show, coupons for discounts in the gift shop and all-day parking at the Franco Center.
Coffee and breakfast snacks will be available at the Franco Center, starting at 6:15 a.m. Part of the proceeds will benefit the nonprofit center for heritage and the performing arts.

Reading group to discuss Dickens book
AUBURN — The Pickwick Club, Maine’s Dickens and Victorian authors reading and discussion group, will meet from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Auburn Public Library.
Members will discuss “Dombey and Son,” Chapters 1 to 31, by Charles Dickens. Moderators will be Lincoln Ladd and Alexis DesRoches.
