LEWISTON — A Wilton woman who police said entered the home of a young girl, took her flip-flops and made her watch as she used the bathroom appeared in court this week on related charges.

Chrystal Rose, 36, was charged in a complaint with felony burglary and half a dozen misdemeanors stemming from events on Aug. 4 in Livermore Falls.

She didn’t enter a plea in 8th District Court on Wednesday because only a grand jury can hand up an indictment on a felony charge. Prosecutors are expected to present her case to an Androscoggin County grand jury next week.

If she were to be indicted on any of the charges in the complaint, she would be arraigned in court where she would have to enter an initial plea to the charge or charges.

She was ordered by a judge Wednesday to remain at the Androscoggin County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.

If she were to be released on bail, Rose would be barred from having contact with the girl and her parents, and from going to their home.

Police said Rose posed as a law enforcement officer when she walked into a home where a 13-year-old girl was alone and stole the blue flip-flops worn by the girl, claiming they were her shoes. The girl did not see a weapon but Rose indicated she had one, police said.

Rose made the girl hold her hands while Rose went to the bathroom and made the girl flush the toilet, police said.

The girl, who did not know Rose, was clearly distraught and called her parents, who reported the incident to local police.

Rose was charged with burglary, a Class C felony, punishable by up to five years in prison. She also was charged with the Class D misdemeanors of: visual sexual aggression against a child; criminal restraint; and criminal threatening. Each of those charges is punishable by up to 364 days in jail. Each charge of theft by unauthorized taking, violation of condition of release and impersonating a public servant is punishable by up to six months in jail.

Prosecutors are seeking a mental evaluation for competency to stand trial and insanity during the commission of the crimes.

Rose’s attorney said Wednesday she had been off her medication during the events of Aug. 4.
