TOWNSEND, Tenn. — Lorraine M. (Labbe) Crawford died Wednesday, Oct. 25, at her home in Townsend, Tenn., with her loving family by her side and her dog, Heidi.
She was born in Lewiston on Nov. 27, 1937, the daughter of the late Philip and Marie Labbe of Lewiston. She was the oldest daughter of five girls and five brothers.
Lorraine is survived by her two children, Debra Manning and husband, George of Knoxville, Tenn. and Jeffrey Crawford and wife, Misi of Cypress, Texas.
She was married to William Crawford of Torrington, Conn., a career Navy man stationed at Brunswick Naval Air Station, whom she met in 1961 and began a loving marriage that lasted 54 years.
Lorraine was a devoted and loving military wife accompanying her husband to Sasebo, Japan, Port Hueneme, Calif., San Diego, Calif. and Thurso, Scotland. Once back home they lived in Auburn, Torrington, Conn., Knoxville, Tenn. and the remainder of her life in Townsend, Tenn., by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Townsend, the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, the Fleet Reserve and VFW.
She was loved by everyone who met her. She had an infectious smile that could light up a room, loved socializing with friends and family, could always be heard laughing and had such an easygoing attitude. She never met a stranger; they became friends right away and were made to feel like family. She loved her summers at the lakeside camp in Sabattus, where there was always a gathering of family, neighbors and friends.
She was so proud of her three grandchildren, Jessica Crawford of Houston, Texas, George Manning of Knoxville, Tenn. and Sarah Crawford, also of Houston. She adored her maltipoo, Heidi, who was always by her side.
