KINGFIELD — Someone significantly damaged a town baseball field on West Kingfield Road with a vehicle this past weekend, according to a Franklin County sheriff’s deputy report.
Deputy Brian McCormick responded to the scene at 9:36 a.m. Sunday, Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said. The vehicle was driven around the entire baseball field and spun its tires, he said.
The damage was done between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Leanna Targett, Kingfield administrative assistant, said she and her husband raked the field Sunday to try to get the dirt into the ruts before it rained.
The vehicle drove around inside the fenced-in area of the infield, she said.
“It’s just heart-wrenching to get a call that someone tore up the field,” she said.
The Little League field is being revamped with private donations and not taxpayers’ money, she said.
It is undergoing a total overhaul and a new fence has been installed. New bleachers will be installed in the future.
Nichols said the field was also vandalized several years ago.
McCormick asks that anyone who knows the identity of the person responsible for the damage to call him at 207-778-2680 or email him at bmccormick@franklincountymaine.gov.
