LEWISTON — A surprise private party was held recently for Eddie and Connie Roy of 20 Mitchell St., Lewiston, on the occasion of their 65th wedding anniversary. The event was planned by their five children and spouses and held at Grey Haven’s Inn in Georgetown Island.
Flowers decorated their room for the overnight stay at the inn, with the original wedding candle on their table. They enjoyed a private balcony overlooking the ocean.
Mr. Roy and the former Connie Bergeron were married Sept. 1, 1952, at St. Louis Church in Auburn. Their children are Ann Marie Roy, Donna Deschene, Karen Shaw, Eddie Roy Jr., and Paul Roy. They also had another son, David Roy, who is deceased. Their grandchildren are Mathew Shaw, Cassie Begin, Angela Naigle, Danielle Carr, Diana Friedlund, Jennifer Bouchard, Tammy Dostie and Evan Roy; also, 15 great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy are both lifelong members of Holy Cross Parish. Mrs. Roy was a homemaker and worked part-time as a waitress at York’s Steak House. Mr. Roy was employed at Crest Shoe, Central Maine Credit Union as groundskeeper, building maintenance at Harriman Associates and worked two jobs to support his family.
To their children, Mr. and Mrs. Roy are an example of what a true, lasting love is.
